Post Lightning Strikes Hunters
Saturday I was out near High Island, TX in a refugee. We knew rain was in the forecast, but a pretty heavy thunderstorm popped up.

The neighboring refugee is in Anahuac, TX and is 5 miles from where I was. There were 4 hunters struck by lightning. Two were able to get the boat going and drive to the ramp. The other two were unresponsive and had were flown to Galveston. At this point, there's not much confirmation to anything. The GWs told us that two had no feeling in hands / feet, and the other two were listed as stable.

Just be vigilant out there. We will pray that these guys recover and get back to hunt quickly. Lightning isn't a joke, and can come up fast!

I heard about that. Do you know if the lightning actually struck the boat or was it just really close to them? Curious what it did to the boat. I hunted in Winnie and saw a lot of lightning in the distance but we lucked out and everything skirted around us.

A co-workers nephew and three of his friends were teal hunting in Anahuac this morning. While picking up the deks, lighting hit the water a few yards away. Two of them were out cold and life flighted to Houston.
His nephew and one other were taken to Baytown with no feeling in their hands and feet. Pray they all come out of this ok

Thanks for the link 3Ck. Looks like all are going to be okay. Update said they were released from the hospital. Wardens even went the extra mile to go find the kids gun.

It's something you go out thinking "this wont happen to me".

Just more proof that it can happen to anyone. Glad that they are going to be ok.

I know two of them that were in that group. They were the two that were stable, heard from both of them yesterday, seemed to be fine. No word on the one who had to be life flighted

I was one of the hunters life flited. The lightning struck the water and discharged through the spud pole into my arm and through my friends shotgun into his arm. Neither of us were knocked out but we almost passed out and had little to no feeling in both of our left arm. My buddy was life flighted first in the yellow helicopter to memorial Herman and I was the second person life flighted in the red helicopter to memorial Herman also. Just commenting to clear up any false information and the other 2 hunters with me which were my buddy and girlfriend were fine cause they weren't holding anything metal. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SENT PRAYERS!!!
