Post Winch Long Distance?
There are some places where I have to winch the boat 500-700 feet. We do this by stretching out the 50ish feet of winch line, hooking it to a t-post, holding the t-post at a 45ยบ, and letting the winch pull the t-post into the ground until it grabs and pulls the boat to the post. Repeat.

I'm looking for ideas to maybe winch it all in one go, or to minimize my efforts.

I've thought about stretching a 500 foot of rope from the boat to my destination, and tie it off to something. Have the spool on my winch empty and feed the rope through it, wrapping it a time or two. Work the rope like an electrical cable puller (tugger). In theory this will work, but might not be practicle. I think I'd rather roll 500 ft of rope on a spool than fight that 50 foot line many times.

Open to suggestions. Heres a photo of one of the spots I winch through. Typically only has a few inches of water, and it's usually hard packed. Also attached an example of a "tugger".

The tugger idea sounds best to me. I'd be wary of the winch overheating. That looks like a miserable time winching that far either way

Is that picture a recent one?

Are you mainly concerned on winching out or winching in?

Usually with just an inch or so of water I can make it in. And for leaving out I put my boat right at the pipes where it is slightly deeper and run out while the others walking the bank.

This is an easy one....

Go-cart motor, clutch, chain, sprockets, some steel or aluminum tube and weld up a frame, put spool where axle would be full of 1/4" braided line on the spool. Set on front deck, crank it up and throttle away.

Google capstan winch. I've got one that I believe is rated for 2500 pounds. I have a couple hundred feet of 1/2" nylon rope for it. It has a chainsaw engine. You are only limited by the length of your rope.

Thanks for the capstan. That might be the ticket.
