Re: One shotgun for Clays and ducks
I've shot alot of different guns. I prefer an OU, but not opposed to an autoloader by any means. The following are my particular favorites in no specific order.
OU: Any of the Beretta models Browning 725 and Cynergy Caesar Guerini Blaser F16
Autoloader: Benelli M2, SBE, Montefeltro Beretta 391, A400 I would check out the Fabarm XLR5 as well

Mr. Otto is a great person to deal with. You know Jimmy Harrod?

Re: One shotgun for Clays and ducks
Joined this discussion late, wish I could get to the range more often. My Beretta 3901 12 ga. has been a very good gun in both endeavors. I had it fixed over the summer, sheared bolt rod, shot many shells in four straight seasons, no hiccups till the break. Took it out a couple of weeks back and shot three teal in fine fashion. I added a hi-viz sight and that has helped.

Re: One shotgun for Clays and ducks
my extremma is probly over 10 years old now. it cycles 3.5'' and low brass 2 3/4'' without hiccups. honest 1 to 4 cases of shells per duck season, plus occasional skeet and sporting clays goofing around. don't think they make it anymore, but it's been a good gun.
good luck with your search!!!!!

Re: One shotgun for Clays and ducks
I have an extrema 2 and has always done great with anything from low brass target loads all the way up to 3 1/2. Love my Beretta I just wish they'd make a 20 ga waterfowl version so I could buy one for my wife

Re: One shotgun for Clays and ducks
If you can find a 391 Urika.... it is a very nice dual purpose gun. Difficult to find one though.
Talked to Mr. Otto at Quail Creek today. First thing he did was ask how my son is doing with the new gun. Then Jimmy checked the comb and recoil pad placment to see if it needed to be tweaked any.

Re: One shotgun for Clays and ducks
I have a 3.5" A5 and a 3.5" Silver Hunter. Both of them function flawlessly with 2.75" and 3.5" shells in any combination. I would choose the Silver Hunter if I was buying. It is well designed, reliable, and cycles anything I feed it.
In regards to shimming correctly you need to know where your natural point of aim is to know where to shim to. To find your natural point of aim just cut a drinking straw in half. Tape it lengthways to the top rib of your shotgun. Then close your eyes and shoulder your shotgun. After you shoulder it open your eyes and see if you can see straight through the drinking straw. If you cannot see through the straw then shim it until you can see through it. When you can shoulder your shotgun with your eyes closed and then open them to see through the drinkiing straw you have found your natural point of aim.

Re: One shotgun for Clays and ducks
Bluesea, that is a great tip. That little fitting exercise would make a lot of folks better duck killers.
