Re: Shed Hunting
I'm sure there's more to it, but I would start with giving him a piece of antler to play with. Use it as a toy, throw it let him retrieve it. Graduate to hiding it around the yard. Then when he gets good at that start taking him to the woods and hiding the antler

Re: Shed Hunting
I got this kit to teach mine. It was easy. Last thing you want is the pup to stick itself in the eye when first picking up a real shed and have a bad experience. Get the dog to hold the "shed" first. Then throw it like a bumper and get them to pick it up then hide it in the grass and get them to find it by giving them a hunt command. Then walk them in a grass field with a couple of sheds and get them to hunt like you would get them to flush on an upland hunt. At some point I started saying "hunt shed" along with my regular hunt command then phased out my regular command. I also changed to a real shed. When you think they are ready take them out in the woods looking for real sheds. Take a shed with you to throw if they don't find one so they always have success. https://www.amazon.com/Dog-Bone-Antler- ... B00BE9NMFQ
