 Skiff Style vs. Jon Boat
I am looking into gettin a rig this summer and was just wondering what the adv. and disadv. are between skiff style boats and the jon boat style hull. I hunt a lot of different areas including some pretty big water. Also I hunt out of the boat a lot of the time. Thanks for the responses.

Re: Skiff Style vs. Jon Boat
if you have to ask about a skiff you probilly dont need it. not in no disrespect to you. skiff is designed for in the woods made to bounce of trees and open up gaps for you to go through, or old school skiffs with 0 rake were lilly busters made to push lillies aways.
advantages to them? if you hunt in the woods all the time it be nice
bateau is better all around boat, hunting out them and fishing too,
you can do everything in a skiff but frogging and bow fishing are much more enjoyable out of a flat

Re: Skiff Style vs. Jon Boat
Where I hunt down in Florida to get there I have to get through some lillie patches but there isn't really any flooded timber down where I hunt at. As far as being stable while standing up and shooting? I will mostly be using this boat to hunt during duck season and cruise maybe fish a little. Also I don't know where I will be next year I may be anywhere from texas up to tenn and over to the atlantic so I want to get the most versatile boat that I can use in different places.

I think a jon boat will fit your needs.

Re: Skiff Style vs. Jon Boat
From our experience in the Midwest, a skiff is a south timber or swamp boat, not so great for the bigger rivers and open water we have up here. A good flat sounds like your best bet.

Re: Skiff Style vs. Jon Boat
most skiffs don't have much of a front deck to fish off of....

Re: Skiff Style vs. Jon Boat
GoDevil Boats - offer the best of both - pointed bow to cut through cane and trees - extended deck to fish from - open square cargo area....
The narrow ones turn on a dime - the wider ones have a ton of lift at speed...
Three distinctly different hull bottom designs to choose from....

Re: Skiff Style vs. Jon Boat
I have one of each type - advantages to both...
Like already posted - square bow = more room, slightly more stable to stand - pointed bow= better in cane and timber, slightly better rough water ride.... Square chine = more lift, more slide - Round Chine = less lift, sharper turning...
Saw all types of boats in Wallisville fun run - eventually we all got stuck somewhere, then blew out'a there like a neutra being chased by a gator...
Test em - buy what you like...
