Re: help with hull choice
Second that, maybe even an 1844 in case you upgrade the motor... I had a 1436 with an 18 HP LT and survived, that was a .072. Unless you are purposely set on destroying a hull, even a lightweight rivetted hull will last a long time and rivets can be fixed. The reason I say longer-wider is you will still get decent performance and most of us morph into something bigger anyway, and you will ready for another hunter or retriever or a few more decoys or one of those hernia'producing yeti coolers.

There you go, corroboration! I should bought the 1848 riveted jon short transom when it was available back in 2004. IMO most of the new factory jons are too azz heavy- that is why I dropped 45# myself!

Re: help with hull choice
I run a 1648 riveted flat bottom John boat with a 9hp LT. it runs 12mph and pushes me over submerged logs. I know I'm under powered but it's still a good set up for me.

Re: help with hull choice
How are we supposed to know what size hull you have it on?

Re: help with hull choice
You will see better speeds with the bigger motor and hull
