What motor size
I bought a boat about a month ago. Was built by a welding shop true flat bottom 1648 mod v I guess youd say. It has a hunt deck that a transom could be welded to. But currently transom is set up in front of hunt deck. Not 100%sure on aluminum thickness. I know it's not 1/8 but it's thicker than my old Lowe 1648 Jon boat. What motors do ya'll run on your 1648. I've been looking at some 25hp go devil's and a 27 hp kawi mud buddy both long tails. I just don't have the money for a surface drive. And I'm worried a big 35+hp motor will weigh to much.

21"sides. Also I'm 230 and when I stood on the hunt deck there was still about 4" above the water.

Re: What motor size
First off, if my eyes arent playing tricks on me, you will never be able to run a surface drive on that boat. It looks to me kinda like 1 long pod along the back of the boat. You wouldnt even be able to put the prop in the water if you had a surface drive on it. post some more pictures of the back of the boat. You may could get away with a long tail. Depends on the next pitcures of the back that you post.
That size hull is fine for a big block too. I've done it multiple times on boats that size and smaller

Re: What motor size
You are correct. Currently it's set up for only a long tail. I'd have to weld a transom onto the "hunt deck" for a surface drive.

Re: What motor size
I don't plan on using a surface drive. I don't have the money for one. But the hunt deck does have support for a transom. For the people that have or had a 1648 was a big block longtail to big or heavy for the boat.
