Mudbuddy trim not working
The Mercury trim on my Mudbuddy quit working. When I hit the button for either up or down, there is a buzzing sound coming from the relays. I pulled the relays and tested them and supposedly they are good. One buzzes one kinda makes a "ratchet" sound. Any suggestions?

Make sure the battery has a good charge and check your connections. It sounds like they are not getting enough power.

Re: Mudbuddy trim not working
Battery fully charged. I did notice some burning plastic/electrical smells a few time while I was out (just before it quit working). But I figured that to be my buddy's boat.

Re: Mudbuddy trim not working
Check the wires that feed them for loose connections. I have seen bad connections where the wire meets the connectors. They will look good but the wire will be corroded where it meets the connector. Wiggle the wires at the connectors at the battery while trying to operate the trim and see if will try to work.

If relays are good, check football up n down switch connections also,it does sound like a wiring problem to me says Ronbow

Re: Mudbuddy trim not working
Jumped the wires to the trim motor. Motor works fine. I am assuming the switch works if the relays are getting electricity to make noise.

Sounds like the relays then. Do the mud buddy's have relays? I figure they would have gone to an up/down switch with the built in relay like gator tail uses nowadays.

Re: Mudbuddy trim not working
If they are both chattering I still think it's a bad connection. Check your ground wire coming from the relays.

Re: Mudbuddy trim not working
It was the circuit breakers. Replaced both and it works great.

Re: Mudbuddy trim not working
If problem developes again with new circuit breakers, you may need to take trim motor off resivour and dump water out of it. Have worked on two trim units this past year that water had got into trim motor. When temps were down moisture in motor would freeze and lock motor up, kicking circuit breakers out. Eventually circuit breakers would fail, from continued tripping. We used brake cleaner to flush out motor and used compressed air to blow out motor, and then RTVed every seam and around bolts.
