Re: FNR GD
Pricing seems comparable with the 40hp head, $200 less than a GTR. I haven't seen a published price on the HDR to compare to yet.
I'll stick with FPR, but if your a frogger or someone who doesn't know how to launch a boat the others work good also.

That lower housing is still going to get caught on every f’n piece of a floating mat. That said, I’m more than pleased with mine after what I’ve put it through the years.

Re: FNR GD
I don’t understand why anyone would say the price is terrible. It’s the cheapest priced surface drive with neutral and reverse.

Re: FNR GD
A buddy bought one and says it I’ll drive farther and back harder than any other horizontal engine. We are going to see on 6/9 he wanted to put together a mud ride to see who can dig better.

Re: FNR GD
Reverse is very functional... I went to one of my hunting ponds and used FNR as if I were retrieving decoys and found it comparable to outboard on jackplate...
However with an angled shaft it tends to splash in over the transom a bit if you throttle up excessively.... I never had a splashover and by pushing tiller to far port side could romp the throttle pretty hard without splashover...
But I have seen GTR users with similar washovers and even cover themselves in mud with full power digging... I would expect the same from the FNR or any reverse enabled MM...
I was testing on my favorite hull the GD 1844 --- would be intersted myself to see it on the newest GD hunt deck hulls... Maybe next test drive ! ! !
They are bringing some hunt decked hulls to the Houston boat show June 13-17 maybe who ever buys one will want to go riding afterward ???

Re: FNR GD
A forged rod, piston with less dish for more compression, different camshaft, supposedly better block casting, a different tune, and a better exhaust. Yes its a mildly modified big block that falls within the emissions constraints. The efi's have variable ignition timing, that in itself is a power difference vs a fixed timing system like the non CDI. The cdi has built in advance, But its quickly to full advance right when you advance the throttle. the 40 will be an nice setup for guys who want to stay stock. I really want to see how well the heads/seat issue is fixed... 20-30 hours every briggs has daylight around the valve seats

Re: FNR GD
Not a motor guru - thanks for the details...
Just know that comparing the 40 to the 35 is like comparing the 35 to the 23 !
It feels more like 50 hp once it winds up into 3000 plus rpm range...
The dead start holeshot and off idle power and torque are better than the 35 but not as impressive as that mid range power....
Cause you want smoothness running a twisting bayou or making hard turns where you need to lay down power more precisely in the shallows....
The 40 GD FNR delivers all that !
