When a sand worn prop is re-worked, is material added or the blade just re-cupped?

Mine were only recupped and hammered a bit thinner....

Good question to ask your prop shop ???

Mine claimed they would add material and put it back to original... When I came
to pick it up I had a new GSSD three blade prop with me... It looked nothing like
the original so I let them 3D scan the original and they offered to rework it again
using the 3D scan they made...

Although this shop has always done good work on my outboard prop repairs my
results were all negative with a GDSD mudmotor prop...

Bottom line they never got it to look even remotely like new - they never added any
blade width or length and charged me $ 150.00 - the prop did not work in open water
or in mud... When you touched a file to reworked prop the hardening was gone when
compared to a new factory prop... Junk...

Never again for me...

Others seem to find shops that do good work - good luck...

Guys I used are a great bunch - gave me credit and we worked it out with my
outboard prop needs.... They said MM work was "new" to them 4 or 5 years back...

GDSD prop might be harder than most to rework because too much cup makes
them lift and blowout in open water or corkscrew into mud and bury too deep...

Either way they dont heat treat so prop wears out way faster than new stock prop...

Gave 4 or 5 old props away to friends who tried other shops but none matched up
to performance of a new stock prop...

I think we tried everyone in the Houston area before giving up...

Baggy in Houma is a beast with working the mud props. Got my boy from 28-32 in a GTR XD 37 with a power tech 3 blade. Give him a call if you get your props reworked later on or have questions about props. Super nice guy and very reasonable on prices.
