Looking to install some seat base plates in my Excel and was wondering if there is anything I need to be aware before doing so? Looking at putting in the 3/4" pin style. I know they should have been installed at the factory in order to reinforce them but that is no longer an option.

I have five counting the one on the drivers seat and I have not had any problems yet.

Just be careful to not go to deep (and go thru or hit the bottom of your boat). Don't know the clearance between the floor and the bottom on that boat.

I know on the PD boat, there was not enough clearance, and we had to build a box for them to sit on. Had a welder build me a little box and then weld it in the bottom of the boat and weld me some seat bases on it. Little hard to find the aluminum seat bases but found some at walmart of all places...

Are you welding in or screwing down? screws are likely to back out on you due to the vibration.

I had a freind install some of them and Excel put the others in. All I can tell you is they are screwed in not welded and they do have to be retightend sometimes. I would give Excel a call and see what they have to say. Im really not sure about how deep you can go in the floor of the boat. Good Luck.

As far as screwing vs welding, the other issue is strength of the alum floor.

The floor's are typically a lower gauge alum and if it isn't strong enough, the screws will not only back out, they will eventually tear out or what I call wallow out, and won't bite.

Doesn't sound like mud dog has run in to that problem.

Just another thing to be aware of...

X2 on the call excel and tell them what you are wanting to do, and see if they have any recommendations.

FYI-cost me $60 (plus cost of base) to get two boxes made (due to depth issue on the pd boat) and two bases welded in....
