I just ordered an Uncle J custom should I 45 the bottom of the stearn or leave it flat??? The boat is gonna be 18X48 with a Pro Drive.

Someone give some opinions.. I need an answer from Flatboat !!!

If you're puttin a PD on it don't 45 it. If you were puttin a GTR on it then you would have to weigh da pros and cons, but wit any other MM it is better not to 45 it.

No 45 for your PD, leave it flat like Uncle J's head.

I like mine with the 45, but you don't need it with the PD. So just go without so J can get finished, he's got chit to do.

Had a long discussion last week with owner of Collette fabrication in Henderson about the 45 degree cut at the bottom/transom junction. He said it helped considerably to displace backwash in reverse and provided a bit of lift, as well. There was virtually no trade-off with planning efficiency. He personally uses a long tail. His experience with Pro Drive was that it was not practical in stumpy areas and that Gator Tail and the like had the best configuration for a surface drive as the prop sits well back of the transom compared to the Pro Drive allowing for the bottom of the boat to clear underwater obstacles permitting the prop to gain purchase again enough to provide one last thrust to carry it over the stump. His podnah had a Pro Drive for 2 weeks then sold it. He said he would have a Gator Tail if he had to make long runs, but his houseboat is only 500 feet from his blind. Just sayin.....

Personally, I find that if you have the 45, it enables the water to come off of the bottom of the boat to quick. meaning, that the prop is actually a bit too far back to cavitate correctley. I had a really light boat, with a 45 and couldnt get any good speeds. I put the motor on a Square back, and increase 4 mph.

Seems to me most people agree no 45 with a Pro Drive so i guess I will go with the peer pressure and the 1st Venice Edition Uncle J will have a flat back Thanks for replies

Yes I'm new to the site but I have noticed one thing, If you mention that ProDrive runs, handles, etc... in any good manner, deltaduckmaster has to be NEGATIVE about them. I'm curious, why is this?
