Post Pro Drive prop removal
I need to replace the lower unit seal nut on my Pro Drive. In reading the owners manual, it says to use a prop wrench. This looks like a piece of 2 or 3" aluminum flat strap with a hole in one end.

I don't have one of these. Is there a quick easy substitute for the wrench? Could I not just buy a piece of aluminum and drill a hole in it?

Aluminum will bend. Get a piece of steel flat bar.

I a also trying to figure out, you remove the prop nut, why do you need a wrench to remove the prop. It isn't threaded onto the prop shaft is it?

Wow missed that Russ. Thanks.
I wanted to mention that the prop nut seal has left handed threads!

no bushing is not threaded. it's tapered and should most of the time come off with the prop then just take a pliers and squeeze it a little and it comes out. make sure to put marine grade anti sieze on everything prop shaft and bushing when you put it back together.

2x4 with a hole drilled in it works fine for me.

A week BEFORE prop removal, spray some quality penetrant oil at front and back of prop. It will save a lot of cussing.

I always used a 2x4 with hole drilled in it.

Most auto stores have marine grade anti-seize . Or just eBay it a week ahead of time.

Helps to remove prop I ce every year, needed or not.

Gen. 3 lower unit is much better since they dropped thread prop BS.
