The zerk threads are broke off inside of the u-joint. I tried using a small extractor tool to get them out, and then that broke off inside of the zerk

That is why I probably have to replace the u-joint.
As worn as the driveshaft keyway is, I don't think a new key will sit very square inside the key way (it wants to roll over diagonally). Anybody see a problem with spot welding the key in to the drive shaft keyway in a square position? My plans would then be to install that into the new u-joint/yoke and then tack about three different spot between the yoke and driveshaft. I would think that should hold?
