 300lb 1848 alumacraft and a swomp 23
I have an alumacraft 1848 riveted hull, 300lb empty was thinking of pairing it was a swomp 23, any info will help

I would go bigger in the 35. I think your speeds will be very limited.

I agree, get more horses! But that 18 will run better than a shorter hull. even with a 23. I wish they still made that configuration... I can get by with a lighter weight riveted hull, and that would cost a lot less than a custom hull.

I have a Swomp 35 on the same size boat. It carries that motor just fine. Get the 35. Just my 2 cents.

1848 has the same displacement regardless of whether it all welded or riveted. Go with the 35. That size boat is perfect for it. Going any less and you cheating yourself.

The only question is that transom height- on the Alumacraft site- yes, they make one but with a 20" transom- this will problematic with a 35 LT (or any 72" length) and you will have to strain to keep that prop in the water. One fit is the 35 BackH20, because of its additional adjustments the others don't have. I know a friend who has an old Seanymph 1852, also riveted, who finally cut down the 20" transom to 16" and it made a world of difference...he currently has a 35 MB Hyper on it and it scoots but the shorty has had a bunch of repairs. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks again for all the reply, the transom is 16 with 20''sides and it's rated for a 40hp, but the 40 ob that was on it only weighed 140 vs 225 that the 35bw weighs, looks like I'll give it a shot, the 35bwlt cost the same as the 23 hp copperhead i was looking atif I wwent that way

I run a GDLT Honda GX630 (20-22hp) on a rivited Alumacraft 1848 with a 20" transom. I have to bend the cav plate up some but it runs fine. I can get 16 mph with my bowfishing stuff. I thought about cutting the transom down but I don't need speed where I go

Was out this past weekend in a friend's boat, a heavy 1852 with a 20'' transom and a old 25 mb lt, with two of us and hunting load we average 17.3 bumped 18 in shallow water, trying to get him to let me put it on my boat to see what it will do, but he's not going for it yet

I have a 35 Backwater on a 17-52 Alweld, had I bought anything smaller I'd always be looking to upgrade to the 35. Always max out your HP on toys. Performance is better with more power, resale is better and it costs less to buy the biggest the first time rather than stepping up the HP ladder a few buck at a time. I've never heard of anyone changing something up because it had too much power or was too fast, think about it.

i had a swomp 35 and the motor weight is more over the transom to slightly forward than hanging off the back like an outboard you shouldn't have a weight problem my 35 was on a 18x46 and did fine hope it helps

smaller HP Decal kits usually work for horsepower resrictions
