 1854 GTB with Stock 35GTR
Picked up my first rig used. Found it on this website for what I think is a solid deal. Got it out for first time yesterday and all I can say is WOW!
MM Brand: Gator Tail GTR Horsepower: 35 Boat Brand: Gator Tail Boat Size: 18x54 Boat Layout: Open with gun boxes on both sides
Speeds | Shallow Water: not enough to test well Speeds | Deep Water: 26 to 27 consistent hit 28 a few times Total Boat Load With Gear Etc: 3 men prob 625lbs, full ice chest of beverages, 12 gallons of fuel Conditions Tested In: fairly windy with light chop.
I didn't know a boat could go across mud like that! I did get in a bind a couple times, user error i believe. Found a really shallow cut through the marsh and followed it till i couldn't or wouldn't go anymore. the reverse backed me right out. Its a square chine boat and did slide a little. But it wasn't bad at all. I am completely happy and impressed. We were like some kids on christmas as we took turns driving my boat over mud flats.
I do have a question though: is there anything that can be done to ease the torque load on the tiller handle. You have to HOLD ON to that effer!!! When I got it trimmed just right it wasn't as bad but still could use some improvement in that area.

You can bend the skeg or get a torque tab from gator tail, load placement in the boat also plays a big part in tiller torque. You have to try to balance the load evenly in the boat, it makes a big differance.

x2 on balancing the load... just my dog walking around the boat is enough for me to feel it.
Great speeds with that load! Very impressive!!

Deffinately have your load balanced good. Makes all the difference in the world. Also, wind blowing from either side will make a difference. When in the mud, you have to have it trimmed down a little while running. I find with mine if its trimmed all the way up when you run across mud wide open, it'll damn near push you over the side of the boat.

Re: 1854 GTB with Stock 35GTR
quick fix for the tiller torque is to move the motor away from you about an inch then test it.. If the handle pushes on you move it back towards 1/2" and test again.. The others are correct about weight placement..

So if the motor is pushing towards you already, which way do you move the motor?

Move it to the port side, away from you.
