 Re: Saltwater
GDSD - run almost exclusively in the salt water marshes...
Lil shot of WD on the shaft/bearing at load-up and a pump or two from the greasegun before load-in are all that I do.... Never even rinse her down - unless it's rainin... LOL
Do way more maintenance on the dang trailer than the motor...
Expectation - stock muffler replacement in year two or three and new rear seal at 250 hours - new shaft at 500 hours or at 250 hours if significant "grooving" is detected.... Don't matter if you run fresh or salt on these two though... New switches, trim relays and clutch at - oh wait - NEVER... LOL

 Re: Saltwater
I saw a GTR in Empire that was covered with barnacles and it was running fine. Same goes for a PD that I see at this guys camp he leaves it in the water all the time lower unit covered in barnacles and it runs fine.
It all comes down to taking care of your chit,if done correctly you will have less problems. I run both salt and brackish areas and have not had a problem.
If you want a motor without nuetral, trim, and reverse get the gdsd. It has less to go wrong but after running them I'll never own one unless it was given to me.
Oh and they ALL break believe me.

 Re: Saltwater
godevil is the shit, for sure......................................but theres no fair comparison. its like trying to compare an old 200 threewheeler, they were the shit too once,to a new 4x4 fourwheeler with reverse.
salt water is bad on everything!
and....................i think.................
giga is full-o-shit,he cant be stupid enough to never rinse his motor off!

 Re: Saltwater
Please excuse the GD Cheerleader that we call Giga - don't let the salinity of your water be the deciding factor, that's just stupid. Go with what you NEED, if you need FPR cause you like getting unstuck, get it. If you want instant reverse for convenience, get it. And if you want something simple to save you some coin, go with GD or MB. Easy as that. Just remember - GD has no neutral. That's dangerous in my book, and if it were my company, I'd be embarrassed to be that far behind the times.

 Re: Saltwater
I run salt/brackish water all the time. Rinse everything off when you get home and never look back. A little Wd40 or Liquid wrench on the motor before and after you go out helps too.
Been doing that a while and no problems here.
