i have a longtail go devil, and am thinking about selling it and getting a surface drive. do the surface drives 'kick up' when u hit something the same way a long tail does?

Yeah they are free floating just like a longtail. Mine pops up and over logs just fine or you can just press down on the handle and raise it up quik to avoid hitting somthing.

will kick up freely like a balanced GDLT or GDSD.....

That might be why it was so long before an answer - cause

He's talking about the pd's or maybe even the gt's. They are weighted back and not so "free floating" like the balanced gd frame or some of the mb's. They all float though. If you hit something the lower unit will fly up over it...

Let the record show, Giga did pull me out once when I was stuck. We weren't in the mud though, I hit the land to slow and got hung up. West End Angler has the pics.

And to answer the question, Yes they will all kick up, some more than others. I got rid of my GDLT for a 35 Mudbuddy SD. I wont go back to a LT. The SD fits my applications more and I like getting to the spots faster.
