Post Surface Drive motor ?
Ok new to this site and this mud motor stuff but looking into getting 1. I have a 1652 F&F Flatbottom i'm looking to get a motor for. What would be a good size motor for this boat? Something that will push it with decent power. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A 16x52 should be big enough to float a 35 hp SD, is the boat a true slickbottom mud hull or a standard flatbottom?

What brand mm are you leanin twoards?
Oh, and welcome to the site. Hope you arent offended easily.

What terrain are you running in? Stumps? Veggies? Sand? Mud?
A regular flat boat will get beat to hell in stumps, you may want to re-enforce the transom some more also.

It is a true flatbottom i will be using it for duck hunting so the loads will be fairly heavy with decoys and 2 to 3 people the area i hunt is just a flooded bottom it's not terribly rough just sometime the water can be too low to run a outboard safely i was thinkin about getting a motor in the 20 something range i didn't know if the 35's and such would be too heavy Do mud motors bolt thru the transom or do they just get clamped down up on the top? Thanks for the input so far

The pd's hang over the top and bolt through the transom. I don't know about the others, never paid that much attention to one.

mudbuddys are the same way. they have the 2 clamps u tighten down and it also bolts to the transom. with a load like that i wouldnt go below a 35. that size boat will have no problem holding a 35

Don't sell yourself short on horsepower, get the most horsepower that oyu can. Whatever engine you chose, get the most horsepower, that is all that I have to say.

I have a Mud Buddy Black Death 5500 that I'm very happy with, it will push your boat nicely at 30+ mph.

You could have test driven one --- You didnt want to travel to buy one --- I would never buy one without test driving it.

PD and GT are within 5 miles of each other and GD is about 60 miles east.

GO TEST DRIVE and see which one you feel more comfortable with
