Post treated 2 by for trailer runners
Is there any reason I can't just put treated 2x4 or 2x6 flat on my trailer with no carpet for runners. I want to put them on the trailer without the brackets so the boat will be lower on the trailer. Also, I read somewhere that treated lumber had something in them that would attack the aluminum. Any thoughts on this?

I got radical with mine when I redid the boards. I went with 4X4 treated posts. I figured the extra weight on the trailer was not a killer, and i wanted to be done with it. If you go look at Lowe's or any lumber yard the price differences on a few boards is nothing to think too much about either.

I got frogspit on my boat, and i did not put carpet back.

Those new AQ2 (or whatever) the new treatment is is really hard on alot of different metals as well as semi corrosive.

I'd go with the new composite type lumber. Your boat will slide on and off easier, don't have to worry about rot, splitting, or cracking

Don't use the new ACQ treated lumber. It will eat through the aluminum..

I am running just 4 2x6's on the bottom with counter sunk screws and no carpet and they work great.

Do like you're talkin about with just the bare wood, then put the teflon strips on top of it. It'll slide on & off easier, plus the wood will not be in contact with the metal.

I would not use any type of treated wood, especially ACQ type. It will quickly corrode an aluminum hull. Use in saltwater will make it happen even faster. I have proof if anyone would like to see the results. Carpet has no effect on the aluminum. Check out the web site Ultimatebunks.com

Why not just use a regular spruce 2x and seal it then carpet it? Should last as long as you need it to..

Poker and Gator running untreated 2x6's? They are cheap and I guess would last a little while.
