Post Fuel up Front....
for those of you that run your fuel tanks (built in or portable) up front, do you use an in-line fuel pump and a fuel/water seperator or do you just use the normal pressure move the fuel from tank to motor?

I have been running my 35 GTR since 08 with the tank in the bow with no extra fuel pump. I do not think it is needed on a stock engine.

Once the factory pump wears out, you will need one

I have my tank up front with a Facet Cube fuel pump and it works great. Throttle response is instant and the motor always cranks up as soon as I turn to key. I don't have a primer bulb either but I do carry a older spare fuel pump just in case. If you decide to get an electric one, just be sure to put a fuel filter before the pump to keep it from clogging. I have my fuel water separator after the pump mounted on the transom next to the engine and haven't had any issues with this set up.

With a stock motor, you won't need an e-pump, but if you upgrade to a Mikuni, you'll need one.

I just put a little Mr Gasket 12S fuel pump on my rig when I moved the tank to the front. But then again, I've had bad luck with those stock fuel pumps.. Ive had 3 go out on me in the last 3 years, and they would have left me stranded if I didnt have a bulb. but since I got the pump and a regulator I havent had any issues and my motor always starts right up.

my brand new stock pump wouldnt keep up from the front at extended WOT runs so I had to go back to my little Mr Gasket setup from Oriellys. works good. use a relay tho.

No pump on a 1860 with stock carb. I have had no issues and it came from gt with the tank up front.

I just added a pump to my set up and here are the results.

When I first set up my rig in February I had alot shorter gas hose and that thing rans 4200 rpm's with no issues. I then set up my built in tank up front and with additional storage boxes and junk I wouldnt get anymore then 4020 rpm's at best.

We'll today was like having a new boat again. I consistently ran 4150 to 4200 and in shallow water ran up to 4290. This thing ran great for the first time in 7 months.

Also noticed is the engine never cut out and died as before. When frogging it used to cut out when ideling and alot when throttling up. Never did it once today.

Engine seems to like the new pump. Hope it keeps this up.

thats what an electric will do for you. itll never hurt to have a constant supply of fuel even when the tank is in the back.

#12S ? Is this the pump to use? Do you use a switch to control power?

Didn't need one until I modded my carb. After the mods, the stock fuel pump just couldn't keep up. I originally had it wired into the starter, but changed it so now it is wired into the engine through an oil pressure gauge. When ever there is oil pressure it is running.- no oil pressure, no pump. I like this set up. I was worried it was going to push too much fuel for the Mikuni, but i have had no problems so far. Mr. Gasket 1.5-3lb...you don't need much.

you need to use a relay- all those circuits like fuel solenoids and oil pressure switches are not load carrying circuits (or not big loads). the keyswitch will not handle it over time.

If you take your ignition off, on the back you will see a set of male ends that go into a multi female plug, then another single male end that is kind of off to the side and in a different position that does not go into the multiple female end. that is the wire you want to splice into..

This is how mine looks..

Its the one kinda off to the side by itself that you need to splice into. and that should do the trick..
