Post MANUAL TRIM On 36HP PRODRIVE NOT WORKING RIGHT
Should my trim go up to where the wheel doesn't spin anymore? I get to a certain point and I am just turning the trim without it going up, like is stripped. Thanks for the help in advance!

Yes, it should trim all the way up

I talked to KP and he said to try clean the grease off the trim wheel, to see if that works. Should I just order a new housing Is about $57 ? The motor is only a 2009 with 31 hrs. I don't see why I am having these issues. Thanks for the info.

Sounds liked it's stripped for sure. There is a set screw that you can set to hold the wheel in the sweet spot. If you try to use the trim with that set screw tight, you will strip out the threaded rod pretty quick.

Thanks I guess that is what happened. So your saying the trim should go up without that screw being tighten? Thanks.

Yes. If you try to move the wheel with that set screw tightened down, you will strip out that rod quickly. You only want that thing tight if you are gonna leave it set in one position. If you are trimming up and down, it needs to be loose. You may take a look at the threaded sleeve too. We wore one out doing the same thing. The rod and the sleeve were shot. I was able to get a good deal from someone on the parts for a winch setup and had a winch laying in the garage already, so I chunked the wheel.

Cool deal thanks. Is it pretty easy to put a new set up?

Yeah they are all pretty simple. If you just replace the wheel and sleeve, it's real easy. If you go to hydro or winch, you have to swap the arm out on the transom bracket. Other than that it's pretty simple. With the hydro, probably took us about an hour to get it done with two people. On the winch probably only took about thirty minutes. We did the winch second, so we knew exactly what to do already... If you go hydro it will come with very detailed instructions. The winch would be a used set up, so you'd have to wing it, but they're both pretty straight forward.

Had to replace the trim once before also. We went back with original parts and it was a cinch. Our problem was cause by not having the motor strapped dowin while transporting it. Putting it up on the chain didnt work either since it bent the bracket out when you hit bumps. Best thing we found to do was modify a transom saver to fit the PD lower unit.

I did the same thing with a transom saver to help with the bouncing. I still get some play when i hit bad holes and bumps but is not that bad now. Before, I had a strap that worked like crap and bounced everywhere. I guess it could have been that, don't know, but It sucks.

I just changed out my my maual trim because it was stripped. Pretty easy but the question I am asking is the threaded brass nut that comes with the trim rod is pretty easy to put in the hole where it belongs but if you pull that trim out, that nut falls comes off. Should it be snug, thanks.

If you are talking about the round brass nut... then that is just a stop nut and it will just fit in there loosely.

For what it's worth I stripped mine out and replaced it a couple of months ago. I just stopped using the thumb screw to lock that wheel in place. I believe that was what caused mine to strip out.
