Anyone go from Power trim to manual?
I have the old power trim (winch) for my PD and was thinking about changing. I have read alot about the hydro trim problems and was thinking about just going the old manual trim.
Anybody go back to the manual trim?

Not a smart move. I priced the parts to go to manual one day for my old 27hp when I stayed out in the sun all day and fried my brain and was out of my mind. Almost $200 bucks.
New style hydro trim isnt having as much problems.
Would be a good move to go that way. You will not regret it.

If you have ever been the "Wheel Man" and switched to hydro you would rather shoot yourself in the left nut than go back............ Some of my fondest memories are of Mudhole cranking on that wheel while we all drank a beer and laughed our azzes off.

If you decide to switch, I know someone who may be interested in the parts. What is wrong with the setup you are using now?

When I was running the prodrives I started out with the wheel trim and ran it for about 2 years(It will work your ass off),Then I bought one with the the Hydro-trim and damn it was nice!!I had a few problems with it at times but I think they might have it worked out better now!!

Re: Anyone go from Power trim to manual?
Yeah, the brake's on the superwinch sucked for a while there. I want to say KP had a fix for it, but not sure. I bought one about 6 months ago and haven't had any issues with it. A better brand of winch probably wouldn't have an issue either. Anyway, let me know if you decide to get rid of the parts, just the mount and the trim arm...

Re: Anyone go from Power trim to manual?
Just buy a new winch for under $100 from Northern Tool. They offer extended warranties on em as well. I've replaced mine for free a couple of times now with the warranty. Then get some 1/4" synthetic rope off ebay to use as your line. Since I've gone this route, I have had no problems at all.

Re: Anyone go from Power trim to manual?
I guess I am lucky...never had a problem with the Hydro trim. What problems are people having problems with? My only complaint is that it is not as precise as I would like trimming down. But that is minor, and you get used to it!

Re: Anyone go from Power trim to manual?
Another thing I like about the winch is if it breaks and you are using synthetic winch rope, you can atleast re-tie the rope to get you back to the ramp.
