Post Replacing Outboard with a Mudmotor
I need some advice from the experts.

I have an 18' Weldbuilt with a 70HP Outboard with trim and steering.
I need a mudmotor to get to where I like to hunt.
I would like to keep the trim and steering and get a Prodrive or Mudbuddy.
How hard would it be to do this?
Would it be better to sell the whole rig and buy a rig already set up with a mudmotor without steering?

Let me know your opinions.
Thanks.

What type boat/hull works best for vegetation/few stumps?
I want something between 16' to 18' and about 35HP mudmotor.

A longitudinally braced hull built for a mudmotor.

Will you be running in tight places?
Will you be carrying a heavy load?
What chine style do you want?

There are alot of decisions to make but in the end you will be better off with a true mud hull.

I'm gonna have to agree with Mallard on this, sell the whole rig & start over. My buddy has a cc Weldcraft with float boxes & a tunnel. He's got a MB HD4000 on it, but can't take it in near the places I can get mine, & is nowhere close to as fast. In fact, 3 ppl in it & it'll barely even plane out. Based on what I've seen with his rig & the guys on here, I wouldn't even consider a cc unless it was a mud hull.

Now, several things to consider. For starters, where are you located? Knowin this will help us to steer ya in the right direction. There are several custom builders, scatterred around the country that can build ya a rig to your specs. If ya don't wanna go that route, Gator Trax, Gator Tail & Pro-Drive all offer cc boats, & could rig them for ya, too.

I'm in North Alabama and hunt on Guntersville. Alot of millfoil and hydrilla. Scattered stumps where I hunt. There will normally be 3 people in boat. I will be looking for a used rig around $6,000 to $9,000. There aren't any tight spots where I'm at.

Not sure you're gonna be able to get what ya lookin for in that price range. To try & stay in that range, I'd get a custom built hull & look for a used motor. Then go thru the manufacturer to get everything needed to tranform it into a remote steer. Give Uncle J a shout & see what kinda deal he can get ya.

i know there is a mud buddy dealer in guntersville. may be others also. i know the lake a little and dont think you will beat the boat up much there. i would get a 20 inch motor and a high sided boat, due to the amount of open water you will run. as for a custom hull see what the dealer has , but i think you could get by with a good welded boat in guntersville
