 Nickel Plating Prop?
I have a guy that can nickel plate my prop for free and was wondering what you guys thought? Would it help with wear issues?

i work in the inspection business man and deal with all kinda metals and i would have to say i dont think nickel will help with your wear issues it is a really soft metal man.

thanks for the insight man, i didnt know bc my buddy's dad works for a company that nickel plates all kind of stuff to make it last longer so i didnt know.

The Nickel will make it last longer in weather, and normal wear and tear.. But, it wont help when you are running threw Sand.. Just picture a sandblasting machine hitting your prop..

What about putting a bead of tungsten on the edge of the prop? Thats some hard crap.

i have a co in dallas that i am talking to that can boron difuse the prop it will go about .05 in the metal all of it it is packed in a box of the stuff and heated and controled cooling trying to find out the temper of the sst so we can fig out a heat up and cool down rate its not cheap not bad either if this works boys hang on to yer hats i have done this on slurry <sand and water mixed > control valves with NO WEAR will get back with yall this is a areospace prosses but does any 1 know the hardness of the props <rockwell> ? thanks mac

Never thought about that before but we have 3 huge slurry pumps i will see if i cant find the file on the and see what the impellars are made of.

the great thing of this stuff is that you can buy a new prop get the boron baked in it goese about .05 in the metal but does not add any thing to the tolorances do not know about the impact on it but you can not scratch it with a file at all

The rockwell will vary between 36 and 48 depending on manufacturer.

this coating sounds very interesting. ive been told that the friction of the water and blades does cause heat. sounds funny as its in the water but that what ive heard. and this heat can be substanitial ? i would figure in the mud and sand etc. it would be more.
if this is so, how would the coating and the metal its bonded to react to the very rapid heat and cooling ?
maybe a prop guy on here could validate the heat of the spinning prop?
