sunset at the salton sea back water slew
unfortunetly the back water slew we hunt is probably going to dry up. no more contract with the state to pump water .this screwed up state i live in ! notice the planked launch ramp we have to back the trailer up on the plywood and push the boats off in da mud there is no bottom out there .cant even get out of the boat ! i took a 20 foot galvanized pole and pushed it in without out any resistance my mud buddy pushing a 1860 looks pretty weak next to that twin screw prodrive

The salton sea is one screwed up lake. Thanks to all the agriculture surrounding it. Isn't the water concedered unsafe for human contact?

Re: sunset at the salton sea back water slew
what i was told was that the company running the pumps were on a state contract with the dfg and the contract expired and was not renewed ? So the few of us who run mud motors that hunt this back bay will be screwed we pretty much have a honey hole back here all the ducks and geese come off the two refuges here and the open water off the sea and like this protected back water . the alamo river flows into the sea and is like 40 feet away but the river is like a foot lower than the back bay so just simply digging a trench or slipping a 12" pvc pipe thru the ground with a knife gate isnt a option . u think if i call DU they would help ? for habitat conservation ?

Re: sunset at the salton sea back water slew
i wouldnt drink the water for sure but there is still fish in it talapia and some corvina . the lake was formed back in the early 1900's i think 1905 or so when a leve broke on the colorado river and it flowed down since salton sea is 280 feet below sea level .it flowed for something in the tune of a couple years before they could divert it back. here yall check out this you tube video it will explain it . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKsK13NDkpg

Re: sunset at the salton sea back water slew
That's a sad situation, I couldn't imagine if the place I grew up fishing and hunting will soon be gone.

Re: sunset at the salton sea back water slew
yep right where we launch from is about a foot or two deep and as you head north it gradually starts to get shallow from two feet of water to about 2 to 1 inch of water . its some serious shit though no bottom and swamp gas comming out of the ground .there is alot of those geo thermal plants around there due to the abundent steam releases. the ducks love it ! this time of year the divers come in from a high flight and bombard that back water.

Re: sunset at the salton sea back water slew
What a shame. We can give dumb n1ggers checks to sit on their ass but we cannot find the money to keep pumps going to save that lake?

Re: sunset at the salton sea back water slew
If the sea has come and gone over many generation what will cause it to never return if it dries up like mother nature tried to do to it back in the 50's?
not trying to be a jerk but mother nature will thrive off of it if allowed to dry and come back NATURALY.
