I was on youtube looking at longtail motors. This video came up so i had to see it.... the owner of the company i work for has a motorcyle shop and plenty of old bikes layin around. if i was to talk him out of a motor for a few hundred bucks do you think its possible to put it on a 29hp mudbuddy frame? my brother is a machinest and can cut brackets to mount it with a water jet or whatever metal work is needed. What do yal think?

yep! the fue situation is no prob, an e pump could supply enough. i would put electric fans on both cylinders too.

It would definatly be a different addition to all the other motors lol. Pretty cool

From the smooth way that baby went through everything, I say "go for it", especially if you have access to the parts and skill to make it work. Just please have more sense than the guy that drove that thing without a grab bar. It's hard to enjoy something that cool when you're in the hospital or dead!

Thanks for posting. I've heard of Harley powered mudmotors, and I've been wanting to see one. The youtube video sure weren't very generous with any closeups of the build though. I'd like to see how they got around the starter mounting issue. On all the bikes I've seen, the starter is mounted to the transmission, so they either had to build a mounting bracket, or find an engine application that would work. I dont know of a harley engine that has the starter mounted direct. Has anybody seen one of these up close, and can shed some light on how it was done?

I remember looking at these Predator motors back in 2005 and I believe they had a frame designed just for the motor. If I remember correctly Beavertail claimed they used a NASCAR frame engineer to design and build the frame (tube chassis type thing). Considering that a stock 88ci Harley motor (smallest Harley I'm aware of) has between 50-60HP, I would be a little leery to stick a motor on a frame designed to handle around 30HP. JMHO. But anything is possible with a little skill and some parts. Heard this one from a fabricator, "If they can build it, so can you".

ahh ok i remember. if it were me, id jus try and sell your motor and get an sd. or if youre stuck on keepin the lt, buy a 31 or a 35hp block and out it on there. there would be an incredible amount of work to be done to put a harley engine on a mm. the cylinders have to have something to support the top of them, thats why motorcycles have a top motor mount. the torque can literally push the two cylinders apart. thats why the beavertail predator has that racecar lookin frame around it. you could also do like i did an buy an sd frame and out your engine on it. i came out waaaay cheaper!

Should'nt be that hard of a build if you have access to the fab and machining equipment. I have a VW motor mounted on a home made longtail frame. I cut the bell housing off of a VW transaxle to have a starter mount. Maybe you could do something similar for the Harley motor

I have looked everywhere for a frame and no luck. where did you find yours autogateman I have 27 koeler and it would look great on a gdsd frame.
