i know theres different kinds for different applications but i dont know about any of them. i got a set screw on my u-joint that keeps comin out. i lost 2 keys with that shit today. not fun puttin a key in when u cant get outta the boat. i even had them dam things torqued down as much as i could, but definitely not to the point of stripping threads.. whats yalls bets suggestion to keep these set screws down and tight?

oh, and it only seems to be the one at the crasnkshaft, not bad at the driveshaft. ima loctite them both, but thought that was kinda wierd.

Use the blue medium strength. It'll be strong enough to keep em from lossening up, but you'll still be able to remove em when you need to.

I've heard of a few people that had that problem, they tack welded the set screw to the u-joint and never had any more trouble.

is the red stronger? i shouldnt have to remove them much, but definitely dont wanna tack em. what exactly is the PROPER way to apply it? just a dab or coat the whole screw?

They all come in a red bottle, but I've always used the med strength for everything. Not sure what color the super strength or extra strength (or whatever they call it) is. To use it, simply clean both the bolt & the nut (or in this case the bolt & the threads in the u-joint), put a drop or 2 on the bolt, screw it in & torque it down.

yep use the blue...

the red will not give as easy and might strip the head on your set screw.

that screw is supposed to be saftey wired in place. is there a hole going throught the head of it?

If in the future you need to remove a bolt or screw with locktite on the threads heat it a little with a torch it will make it easer to remove! And the blue IMO works the best.

its a homebuilt motor, i dont have a set screw like that
