Bout to buy my first mud boat
Hey guys iv been on here for a little while but mainly just reading and learning stuff. I just got a new job and am thinking of buying a new boat. Iv been considering a 1754 prodrive with a 36hp remote steer and a center console. Could some of you guys give me pros and cons of this rig? I mainly duck hunt and just want a rig the wife and I can go out of and enjoy the day. I wanted something she was also be able to drive rather easy.

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
Only suggestion I have is to go with 18ft..
what type of terrain do you hunt?
Hunt out of the boat?
how much weight?

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
Ok I hunt trinity bay and some small coves on lakes and rockport and corpus. Nothing too shallow prolly about half a foot at the lowest where I would take the boat. Yes I hunt out of boat wasnt planning on a boat blind. The weight would vary most of the time with would be me (145lb) lab (95lb) and either my wife whos tiny or a buddy or two who are my size and usually 3 or 4 dozen decoys.

I fish and hunt all the same area you do. I went with the gtr because of the instant reverse and better speeds plus ability to trim down deep. I live in Houston if you want to meet out in Baytown we can run my boat and compare it to the others. You should test drive them all really then make your mind up.

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
Do you have the center console gtr or the tiller handle. Iv ran a tiller handle before and it was ok but I want to take into consideration that my wife may want to drive whos really small.

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
My advice is to take these guys up on the offer to test drive any brand you think you may be interested in. I have a tiller GTR35 that I'm converting to c/c steering. The tiller isnt hard to steer on my Gator tail, but I'm in need of shoulder surgery and would rather spend the money on steering than doctor bills. Take your time, test drive what you can, then buy a Gatortail!

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
I just saw that you're in Dayton. You're less than an hour from us here in SETX. If you wanna test drive em all, you can run every brand right here. Let me know & I'll see what I can get set up for you.

Port Arthur (Port Acres) I've got a MB. BFenn is in Port Neches (<10 miles away) & has a PD (with hopped up Genny), several GT guys in Groves & Bridge City, Meat Wagon has a GDSD & he's between me & Winnie.

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
Dang it Kris, you're messing this up for me. I was gonna use this as an excuse to go riding. Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday.

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
I just hate to see a newbie riding in a dang Mud Buddy Besides that were trying to recruit some more SETX crew right ? If so ,we dang sure dont want you bringing him for a test run, cause he is sure to remove him self from MMT ,and as of now ,I aint got but a couple members over here on this end to come rescue me when I have to much liquid courage.

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
Chris,
I don't know how the pd would handle our shallow, sand bottom bay.I've never been in one. But I can promise u the gt Makes life easy.
And I have never driven a cc but for the long runs I sure wish I had one. If you decide to go down to loreauville, let me know. I might drop my rig off at gt for a cc

Re: Bout to buy my first mud boat
Bought a PD 36 54'' x 20' Center Console. First mud boat. Ran outboards for years and my only regret is the size. Doesn't run fast, but it goes through everything. I'm also learning since I've gotten it wet twice and it controls pretty easy. This is a work boat for me so I needed the space.
