 16 HP home build question
Hey guys I planned on making a 6.5 hp home build but ran across a 16 hp horizontal shaft for 150 bucks so i snapped it up. Now im having second thoughts. I over looked the fact that it was a IC and not a v-twin. My question is does it matter? Will this motor work for making a long tail? Im afraid that there is going to be too much vibration. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Bobby

Re: 16 HP home build question
It is a used motor out of a mid 90's craftsman mower. Its a 16 hp IC which i thought meant Inline cylender but i could be wrong. This wont cause too much vibration will it?

Re: 16 HP home build question
As long as its a horiz. shaft I dont see what the problem is. Is it a tapered crank? Or straight? Straight you should be able to get a 1in. yoke and be all set.

 16 HP home build question
Industrial/commercial engine. They usually have cast iron sleeves and heavy duty air filters & valves.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm gonna give it a run with this one and if it doesn't work I'll have the frame built and might try one of the durostar ones

Re: 16 HP home build question
Alright guys i got the motor running and my next investment is the prop. I mainly run in shallow rivers and in beaver ponds with lots of logs and weeds. My question is what size prop do i need. I was looking at Hill Marinebut im open to other suggestions too. Any help is appreciated guys. Thanks, Bobby

Re: 16 HP home build question
Go with the hill, I built 3 so far this month and of the different props we have bought the hill seems to be exactly what I should have bought. Also cheaper than what I paid from ebay.As for the prop size just tell them what size motor you have. For reference, the mudbuddy I used for a pattern was a 13hp with a gear reduction used a 10x10 prop.
