Who is or has built a longtail mud motor from ebay plans
Alright, I know I'm crazy it is 102 degrees f. today but I'm thinking about Duck hunting! Have you built a mud motor from the plans off of ebay? If so are they worth the $? We have about 2 months until duck season and I want to be ready this year.

Re: Who is or has built a longtail mud motor from ebay plans
I built one last fall, used a 6.5 Harbor Freight engine. Got it done in time to get it wet before the cold set in. It was a surprisingly simple, easy design, and the plans are very easy to understand. The plans include a bill of materials and were to get everything. I think I have about $350 or so in mine. Considering the cost of a commercially available mudmotor or outboard, its well worth it, if you have access to a welder and basic hand tools. It took me about 3 1/2 hours or so to build.

Same here , good instructions with a complete list of parts numbers. I bought all metal, threaded prop shaft myself and bought a 6.5 harborfreight motor. My grand total including shipping costs etc. came to 605.00 per motor. This is a all inclusive price, also the complete motor weighs in at 83 lbs. with a full tank of gas.

we built one, but upgraded the suggested materials like the instructions suggest and put a 16hp duromax motor on it, used it for one duck season and sold it. also the materials list is one of the most valuable things in the plans, so i would say they are worth it.
