Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
Should I just sell mine and get longer one or just try to make something like a jack plate or something.I'm sure the longer shaft is the best choice. But you are right when I trim ask the way down the blades barely go past bottom of the hull. That shaft and everything only has 3 hrs on it.

Notch your transom. But this post is just to keep the thread at the top until Boat Dr. comes along with the real answer.

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
I think there's a dealer in southeast OK, but can't remember who it is. Seems like he's on here too. I'm willing to bet if you look around enough, you can pick up a 36 or 48" shaft for cheap. Then you could turn that 32" for $300-$400 & make somebody a deal on it.

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
I actually have the old 36. Or can get it anyway. But it kept cracking because of the brace design.

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
Cracking sorry .cracking around the shaft tube right where tube meets the part that bolts to belt housing . It was welded up a few times and broke the first time it would hit the water. According to previous owner.

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
I'd assume they must've hit something pretty hard or had a prop severely out of balance to have cracked it the first time. Depending on how bad, you might be able to get it repaired (correctly) and use it, but you may want to look for another one.

Just sell that boat and look into another one, you'll spend more time trying to fix what you have instead of enjoying it. Get another boat, there are plnty of them around and enjoy your hunting and your time with it

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
The boat isn't his issue, he obviously has the wrong outdrive on his motor. If he sold it, whoever bought it would have the same trouble with it.

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
Yes dont think I didnt think about taking this boat back to the guy I bought it from. I love the layout of boat if I sold it off I'd be trying to find one just like it. I wish I could find a tall transom motor and just have my boat made into a20 in transom. But I'd really lose my ass on that. Motor I've got only has 29 hrs on it. I'd feel bad to sell some one a broken boat anyway

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
So what type of motor will work on a 17" transom?

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
How much shorter can one be? I've got a 29hp mudbuddy with 27" shaft that when I trim prop down to level, it is still 6-8 inches above bottom of boat and boat will run 10 mph at most. Getting sick and tired of fooling with this piece of shit.

Re: Trouble getting motor to plane boat out, Help!!
so mine measures 17 inches and it's a short. Could I buy new parts to make it where it would put the prop lower on boat? Like I said when I trim motor down to where it is level, the prop is still 6-8 inches above the bottom of the hull

Before you go & spend several hundred $ for no reason, why don't you just post up the pics you said you have?
Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday.
