 Dog kennel/crate
Got my pup, got a lot of questions, first one is, I'm gonna get a kennel, thinking about getting one made of metal wire. Are most the same, what should I look for, dogkennels.com has some good prices. Any suggestions?

 Re: Dog kennel/crate
I bought my first one online then 2nd from the store both around the same price when you factor in shipping & or tax...
Just buy one that will fit your dog when they are full grown!

 Dog kennel/crate
If your talking bout a crate get a plastic one!! You can get a kennel cover for it if you need to get them out the weather on a hunt or at the camp!!

 Re: Dog kennel/crate
I had a plastic one my lab chewed through it in 2 days!
The metal one keeps her in place & safe!

I have 2 of the wire collapsable. Good kennels that will last a long time, plus you can fold em and store them.

 Re: Dog kennel/crate
Make sure if you buy like a extra large kennel to make it smaller inside when she is a puppy. Otherwise it will be difficult to kennel train her. She will have enough room to pee or poop in the back but still sleep up front. 90% of the time a dog will not pee or poop right where it has to sleep. So if you make the area just big enough for her to turn around and sleep in she will cry to let you know she needs to go out. I have used this on all 3 of my labs and it works great. Most of them are kennel trained very quik. Then when thye are older the kennel is still big enough for them.

 Re: Dog kennel/crate
I like the fold down wire kennels for the house because it comes with a adjustable wall inside so that you can keep the area small when they are a puppy and expand as they grow. Just like was said before dont give them too much room in the kennel. I use the plastic kennel for traveling with the dog, like going to the camp.

 Re: Dog kennel/crate
I cut a piece of plywood and tie it through the holes in the side of the plastic kennel to make it smaller for the pups. It has worked really well. Key I found is to make it fit really tight and use and eye strap on the back so they can't get at the line you tie it on with. Also a clear piece of wood without knots, etc. for them to chew on.
Whatever you do, do it yesterday. Mine start in the crate on the way home from the breeder. Much easier if they don't know any different

 Re: Dog kennel/crate
if you place them in too big of kennel when their getting house trained it will ruin their potty training cause it gives them enough room to pee in the kennel but if its just enough room for them to stand and lay down they wont pee in there.

 Re: Dog kennel/crate
Yeah I read your post sounds to me that that would be the best investment for Old school to get for a kennel. If I had to do it again I would be looking for one like that.

I use wire crates... you can get covers for them to put over when you have them in the back of the truck...

Yep, I went with the wire crate and just use half of it for now, thanks for all the info.
