 surface drives and veggies
i have seen alot of surface drives running through vegatation, and have watched the videos...but not ever running on myself, because i dont know anyone with a surface drive, i was wondering how do they handle veggies at idle. the reason i ask is because i am gonna have horsepower restrictions this year so im goin with a surface drive instead of my mudboat. but where we frog its not lillies, but real thick grass mats. like an entire bay full of grass and I was wondering if its like an outboard to as where u would constantly have to be cleaning out the prop, or lifting the motor out of the water. I had planned on going with a gator tail because of the instant reverse but after looking at a pro drive today they look really really well built. i was impressed. so as of right now im not partial to either motor, but i had planned on going with a console. and because of seeing how difficult it is to put the pro drive in reverse by urself i with a console i would have to get the hydraulic reverse. so i dont want to be at the console and having to walk back to clean the prop on the motor every 20 mins. any insight and or comments would be great. thanks

If yer wallet is thick...
A big CC boat with the GT and some major mods - hydrolic steering and aircraft landing lights.... Is da bomb !
Seen EVT's dads rig - as per above and been in serious envy ever since - I'm only about 20 K short....

I agree. If you want a console to run in thick veggies you are gonna work your arss off when its time to grind your way out of something. If you plan on running thick vegetation i would really consider the tiller model. I am speaking of experience here.

 Re: surface drives and veggies
demo rides are free. since u live 90 min from both the gt and pd shop u ought to call them and drive each one in the area u go and see what works better for u. not doing that will make u spend alot of money on the wrong thing.
i will say this, with more reduction, weighted back design, bigger prop, and most importantly full power reverse, there is no better mud motor in the floton than a prodrive. if there was i would own one. it's also easier to drive and with the hyd reverse it is more remote steering friendly than ever.

 Re: surface drives and veggies
At the GT run, I saw a guy have a 10" (roughly) tibmer saw to cut the veggies off the shaft before the prop. I thought that was a great idea for quick, easy removal.
