 The Annual Review
After each of my dogs are well into transition, they are taught the remote drop concept. This is a proactive training sequence designed to promote responsiveness when retrieving. After going through a complete Force Fetch process, each dog experiences a bit of apprehension about dropping a retrieve. Once the are taught it is acceptable for certain circumstances in the context of "leave it", the command "drop" becomes a new expectation.
The three dogs in the video are 11, 7 and 6 years old and retired from hunt testing. Taffey, Kooly and Daisy all have advanced titles in AKC, HRC and/or APLA. My youngest dog, Gunny, is 4 years old. He just earned an AKC Senior hunt test title and recently completed his first "Remote Drop Drill".
Every year in the fall, all four hunt on the Mississippi River in northern Illinois.
