Post New boat ? Need input
I'm looking to get a boat built within the next two months, would prefer a crawfish skiff, 17x40 all 3/16.
And I'm looking at the gd surface drive 27hp or a 35lt.
I mainly hunt on maurepas wma, more on the Mississippi bayou/Dutch bayou/bayou tent area. I had a 18x38 gd boat with a 23lt, but sold it in order to get a airboat 2yrs ago, now the club I'm in comes up with more bs rules and won't allow use of airboats on the lease anymore, so I'm gonna go back to the wma, yr and a half ago I had a single level fusion back surgery done at a young crisp age of 27, I remember how the swamp would give me a workout running my gd I had and was wondering how the operation of the surface drives compare to that of the long tails. Also if there's anyone else that hunts the maurepas wma or Joyce wma could give me a preference on what might suit me best for use, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Id say look at a gtr or prodrive. Seeing that you have back issues these 2 would be the place to start. They have neutral, pwr tilt/trim and reverse. Those options will make operation easier if you have your back in mind regarding motor purchase. Good luck.....

And get a 35 if your pocket book can handle it.

Since you have back issues, I'd definitely go with the GTR or the Prodrive with hydro reverse, push of a button/squeeze of a lever and you're backing up. I wouldn't want to use a push pole if I had a bad back. I would definitely want neutral too, so you don't have to keep bending over grabbing the rope for "go-devil neutral".

May even want to look into console steering if you run a lot of stumps so a tiller don't beat you to death.

i have hunted marepaus several times and a tiller would eat you alive. Given your back situation i would defiantly go with remote steering. as every one else has said also PD or GTR. A 35lt would be a serious workout but i have ran SD and LT in Marepaus and If i was strictly hunting it i would go with a LT. Then again my back is not an issue so i don't factor that in
