Post Catwalk LEDs
Well after researching LEDs and seeing another boat with interior lighting I thought I would look into it. I wanted a very dull and uniform light with no glare which would not hurt my visibility in the dark. I found a great product, weatherproof, easy to install, and met my specs. They do come in other colors, but red is a dark light and the results speak for themselves. I held off approximately 18" from the transom and front deck as I didn't want back glare to hurt my vision. It seems to work as I am blacked out the front and back of the boat and still have plenty of dull light in the hull. Check it out.

Out the rear of the boat

Out the front of the boat

looks good, did you notice if the skeeters and other bugs are drawn to it? I always figgered yellow would be the best color to use for illumination and not attractin the bugs, but can never get feedback on that on these threads.

From what I have read it shouldn't be an issue with red. Yellow would be too bright for me.

I didn't mean a bright yellow, more like a amber ya see advertised with those lights, but if red works then roll with it. looks good and doubles as mood lightin when ya take your wife with ya

Looks good. I installed some under my catwalk a few months back. Plenty of light without being blinded.

What do you use for a power source? Can you run it off your main battery?

Yes. LED's can be wired to run on 12v and they draw very little current, so you don't have to worry about them killing the battery during normal use. I'm sure whatever he ordered came set up and ready to be hooked up to a 12v source.

You can't go wrong with Rob at xtremeled.com. I purchased my lights from him last year.

When you are comparing prices, remember that xtremled lights are embedded in silicone, wired with Ancor marine grade wire, and all of the connections are sealed. They are more than waterproof, they are practically submersible. The lights also come with 3M adhesive on the back for easy installation.

petrel, you are correct as they are submersible and are sealed in silicone. Rob is now shipping the lights with a two way tape to give some relief to uneven surfaces. It's quite aggressive and should prove to hold them in place.

As far as price goes, you get what you pay for. I wanted uniformity in the light as well as a lower transmission of the brightness. These LEDs are lower wattage than normal LEDs and thus to me accomplish the goal of not interfering with visibility while running. I didn't want the spot light effect or inconsistent shadowing I have seen with other products.
