Post Trailer Question
I've got a 1644 GoDevil boat and 35 hp Godevil Surface drive motor. It's on a Sureride trailer with carpeted bunks. I've got to back the trailer in the water to the point my truck's bumper is about even with the water's edge and I still need to grunt some to get the boat off the trailer (it's not a real steep ramp.) I am thinking of switching to roller bunks on the trailer. I know they worked great for my last boat, but it was just a lightweight flatbottom with a longtail on it. I'd like to avoid having to walk in the water all the time to unload the boat and have never been crazy about driving the boat on to the trailer for loading either.

Is it realistic to think I'll be able to handle pulling the boat on and off the trailer with rollers on it? Or is it going to be too heavy and want to roll right off all the time? Anything else I should be considering besides the weight I'd have to pull up the rollers?

What about those glide slick type deals that you just put on to the carpeted bunks?

Thanks.

Take the carpet off or put some slik sticks on the bunks.

Don't unhook it till you are ready for it to slid off.

Slick strips are the lowest cost. Don't have to take the carpet off if you don't want to.

You could also replace or deck the bunks with synthetic deck material (like from Lowes).

What thickness should a guy get in those slick sticks? I was thinking 3/8" to allow room to countersink the screw heads. Is that too thick or not thick enough?

I am looking at maybe just getting some bar stock UHMW and making it all myself even. Would be one solid piece then.
