 20hp Go Devil on 14x36
Any input on how a 20hp Go Devil longtail would perform on a 14x36 jon would be appreciated. I don't know if It would be too heavy or not and I'm sure someone on here has tried it.

 20hp Go Devil on 14x36
I had an 18hp on a 14'36. Watch when turning it doesn't push the corner under water. Will it work? Yes. Best combo? No.

Re: 20hp Go Devil on 14x36
I first ran my 20 GD on a 14 x 40 with a 20 inch transom and it was stable enough. After talking to Coco, I went to a 16 x 38 fiberglass 15 inch transom that weighed about 200 pounds more that the Alumaweld and picked up about 4 MPH ! Longtails do better on a longer, short - transom boat. That 16 x 38 WILL sling you out , if ya ain't careful! It hase'nt done it yet, but it HAS scaired the sheet out of me a couple of times. USE THE SAFETY KILL LANYARD!!!!!!

Re: 20hp Go Devil on 14x36
i ran a 20 hp crawfish model on a 14x36. the things i had to watch for was turning a slower speeds, if you lean to far to either side, the side of the boat would dip and take on water. the other thing was placing the fuel tank(6 gal) in the middle of the boat the get the stern up so water wouldn't come over the transom when i stopped. running small bayous and such did great. running big water got a little wary at times if the wind was up . speeds i got with hunting load and solo in shallow water was around 18mph with new prop running it on top like a surface drive. deep water was around 16mph. if another person was with me then the speeds dropped by 1-2 mph. i would still be running that set up if i didn't have more than 1 person wanting to go. from my experiences 2 people, a dog and hunting gear was the max i felt comfortable with. hope this helps. just play with where to load your gear for best performance.

Re: 20hp Go Devil on 14x36
My first rig was a 1436 jon with an 18 HP GD longtail. I was lucky not to have swamped it several times...two hunters max with load evenly distributed. As bull sprig stated, you have to be real careful on turns and no sudden stops- I was only using it in shallow marshes. By myself it was ok. Wear your kill switch lanyard and wear a PFD! I think a better match would be a 12 HP copperhead on that hull. The 20 probably weighs near the same as the 18 and that is a bit too much for that hull's transom. I would beef it up, adding 1/8" U plate where the motor clamps on. I will say that a few times I got it stuck, it was far easier getting clear on that little boat compared to my present 1648.

i had my 25hp on a 1436. that was scary. to heavy, slow, and real tippy. was real easy to drive into tight spots with a short boat though.
