 Need Help Identifying
I bought a LT frame from someone and can't figure out who made it. I called Go-Devil and talked to a lady who told me what to look for on their frame. It's not a Go-Devil and they won't sell me any parts. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of it yet but will take some tomorrow. It came with the transome yoke, frame, bushings and bearings installed, and all grease fittings. The cav. plate is welded to the shaft housing and bent on a 90* angle on the leading edges. It is also cut at about a 45* angle from the housing to the trailing edge with a bolted on "trim tab" at the very rear edge. I paid $50 for it so I didn't want to pass it up. Now I need parts to finish rigging it out, I've got the hunting feaver!

 Re: Need Help Identifying
Hopefully these will help. I need to get parts so I can use it. Godevil being the closest, will not sell me parts.

 Re: Need Help Identifying
After looking at some of the welds on the frame, I'm thinking that it's homemade. Any thoughts on where I can get a shaft and u-joint for this thing?

Not a GD. I also think its homemade due to the weld quality.

 Re: Need Help Identifying
Shaft- 3/4 inch cold-rolled steel. Length will be determined once you get your engine mounted. Take the rod to a machine shop once you have your length and thread at one end (prop side) keyed at the other (yoke side). Yokes/u-joint- I got my yokes and u-joint at Napa Auto Parts. We matched the 1" engine yoke with the same series yoke for the 3/4" shaft and they carry a u-joint for the series. You could probably find them online somewhere, (McMaster Carr). Not too hard with a little bit of know how.

 Re: Need Help Identifying
Thanks guys, so y'all think I should buy an engine before I buy the shaft, u-joint and prop. I wish I knew what frame they copied from to give me more of an idea of what I need.
About the shaft, What thread count is on the prop end and what key size is on the yoke end? I can cut those myself, I have access to the right machines (lathe and mill).

 Re: Need Help Identifying
Thanks kibb, New question, is the frame built to take any engine size? If so I'm going to put a 23hp on it.

 Need Help Identifying
If its a home build it probably for a specific engine. With minor modification, if any, any engine should work.

 Re: Need Help Identifying
Just drill new holes if need be in the frame, heck you may get lucky and have the holes match up. Mount your motor up and assemble! Just be cautious of the height of the shaft on the engine side!

 Re: Need Help Identifying
If push comes to shove, I can always modify it to fit an engine with a taller shaft dimension. I have a welding machine and a grinder. No big deal.

 Re: Need Help Identifying
Will Beavertail sell the shaft to me if the frame isn't one of theirs? How about these cheap engines y'all are talking about? Are they any good? Where can I get them?

 Re: Need Help Identifying
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is a beavertail. I have one just like it. Yes it will hold up to a 23 hp. Good thing about the frame is it is steel. You can weld anything you want to on it or fix something when it breaks. I wouldn't take it in brackish water because you will probably get a pile of rust. Check out the beavertail parts manual online. Check out this link for motors. Don't know how good they are but for the money it definately can't be too bad especially on a small budget. http://www.carrollstream.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=22
