Don't hunt them when it's hot.

Gators don't eat when they can't get their body temp above 70. Getting bit may r may not b the end 4 the dog. All u can do is persuade the gators 2 stay away.

I have found that a few well placed shots of fast flying hot shit from the barrel of my 12g usually makes them go away.

keep an eye on the dog. keep retrieves fairly short. if a bird falls in the marsh dont send the dog alone. take the boat over to the bank and walk out in the marsh close to where you saw the bird fall then send the dog.

the temps flux and the gators come in an out, last year even though we had some really cold hunts it seemed like the gators never buried up.

What's the deal with deep water? Always heard that but never why.

That's where the .22 pistol comes in handy.

Post Re: ? for those who hunt in south Louisiana with K9s
The problem areas around me are the places where I have ponds opening into deep bayous or pipeline canals. The smaller ones 6' and under are always in the ponds but the larger ones are always in the area of the openings hanging out in the 2'-3' of water.

We have gators out all year long, they will sun on cold days that you would not even think about seeing any. If it warms up from 40 to 70 in a day or two they are all over but just hanging out trying to warm up. Water temps are the key, once the water temps get low they become lethargic

Shooting/killing gators out of season is a serious deal. Those with duck leases r asking 2 lose that lease. On public land u still have legal issues. Not a single person here should suggest it, it doesn't really make us look like sportsman.

Anybody that thinks about his image or the game laws when they see a gator heading toward their Dog dont deserve a fuckn dog!!! Just dont get on the internet & tell stories about it!
My dogs are my kids. I'd shoot more than an alligator over them!

Sorry but I don't view my dog the same as my child. I see a a dog more as slavery. I provide for him, feed him well, and keep him in good health. And in return he works for me. I will not view my dogs life as a child's life. Sorry, it is just no where near that important for me.

I would protect my dog but I don't think getting on the www talking shooting gators is the best thing to do. Gators were out the other morning and the temp was 44. I was suprised.

I don't have any kids, and won't let anybody or anything mess with my dogs, but can't fathom elevating any type animal to human status
