Thai kit has screws instead of key...WTF?
So I have my new Thai kit. I'm pretty impressed with the quality. However, instead of a key on the shaft there is three machine screws. WTF? Will they hold up. What a pain in the butt it would be to have them shear off out on the marsh!

I guess you'll find out. Hell, they may be made of an extremely high grade, top secret mystery metal mined from asteroid fragments in the mojave desert, and are so strong your shaft will break first.
You never know.

It's from Asia. What did you expect, it's got an aluminum prop and plastic bushings.

You might try to put some shallow indention's in the shaft and use a slightly longer set screw to give the set screws something to grab on and make sure you use red loc-tite when you install them and it should hold better than you might think. I just bought three Missouri made mud motors and they failed to tighten the set screws so we spun yoke on the motor shaft and it is no fun. I would have been better to go with the Thai kit it probably would have been just as good and much cheaper.
Thanks for serving our Country!

Maybe sell what you can of the tai rig, and work on building one. They are real easy to build

Re: Thai kit has screws instead of key...WTF?
Quack- i was told by the owner of that company to buy a certain motor cuz he recomended it, he swore up and down it would fit, guess what IT DIDNT! I was not paying $70 to ship the motor back. Yes i was told he would buy the thai longtail back however i wanted to keep it. I asked him his thought on drilling new holes and he was all for it, said it wouldnt be a problem so i did taking his advice. He even asked me to take pics and put them on his website when he got it up and running so others could see it in case they ran into the same problem. Great guy to deal with awesome on custumer service but is is a cheap kit, the aluminum props wont stand up to any kind of abuse and the coupler gets so hot it discolors the metal! It might work for some very light work but for a hardcore hunter it just wont hold up to abuse as well as another kind. Nothing on this motor is heavy duty except the motor plate, there was no jerry rigging done on this motor. Drilling new holes on the coupler would have nothing to do with the slotted nut breaking. Only one side Of the nut broke. It was all done the correct was quack, i know what im doing.....

Re: Thai kit has screws instead of key...WTF?
Quack, the was no vibration..... Take a new coupler without any holes and drill your own, its exactly what i did! As long as the bearing was centered in the coupler and strait on the shaft there is no vibration, there was no vibration. I was told its normal for the coupler to get that hot...... You are an idiot.
