 Re: hmm
most say that motor isnt as good as the Briggs 35-36, Kohler sure sucks in cold weather and parts are 2x times the Brigs parts.

 Re: hmm
Heard that the HP and torque curves are not ideal for a MM.
Sooner or later a 50 HP will appear that does - till then the guys who sell mods are gonna be busy, busy busy....

 Re: hmm
Torque curves are similar to the Briggs-they are on the Kohler site.
Motor runs much smoother than a Briggs 35, had great accelleration, just ugly. I put ~25 hours on one-
prototype comparison:

 Re: hmm
No- I was running through the trees at Caddo- had moss all over me and the boat.
It was a Kohler 40 with MB dual pipes and Mikuni HSR, the rest stock. Best speeds were about 4250 RPM.
The stock Kohler exhaust was about 0.5 MPH slower but it made the motor sound like a compressor.

 Re: hmm
Deadbird,
Did you have a chance to test it in some sloppy mud ?
How was the bottom end power - compared to the Vanguard ?
Also do you know if the gear ratio was different or the same ?
I was told the guys at Do Devil tested them too and passed - maybe the carb made the difference ?

 Re: hmm
OK , how did the Kohler (with Carb and Exhast) run in comparison to your 35 Van (with EVT heads and Exhaust) on the same hull. Which on did you feel was the better motor?
Ive heard the Kohler stock carb sux but dunno....
Did you get to load test it against a 45? Top speeds seem similar to the 45 on that hull, if all youd have to do to the Kohler is add a carb and exhaust to get similar performance youd save alota Jack.
Just my thoughts.

Interesting
What is cost from MB for K40 versus B45hp ?

 Re: hmm
Come on now the 27 kohler was and is a great motor, if the 40 with a carb is running with mod'd 35-36's without all the work whats wrong with that? Would not be surprised if down the road PD and others offered it as a option, sounds like a carb issue to me just throw a mikuni on and go...............33mph ain't to bad from a stock motor with a carb! Just a few years ago 30mph was smoking fast.........

 Re: hmm
Ya know DB8 has a point... I have ran across several people who talk turds about a particular brand they have never driven, much less owned. It gets purdy old. Personally I have no complaints with MB about the 2 motors I have owned in the past.nor do I have any complaints about any of the other I have owned! I think it is unfair and downright wrong to label an individual for what or what not a Manufacturer may have done! I can care less what you drive, who you bought it from, or who's Mods your runnin'! It's your money, spend it how you want and enjoy de hell out your choice! If ever I could help, I'm there. I could never take sides on any of dis sh!t, b/c of all de good people involved, who ultimately are the end user!
Alright, I'm off de soapbox! With that being said... Aucoin hulls, GT motors, & EVT are da sh!t LOL Y'all have fun
