 aftermarket head gaskets
OK so heres my dilema now.. I just had my heads decked to 50 thou. Ready to assemble so i go to order the coper gaskets that everyone tell me i have to have or the stock ones will blow. Well the guy at flat out gaskets tells me the compressed thickness of the copper gasket is 40 thou. this means i just spent 400.00 to essentially run heads performing at 10thou. well the guy tells me they have a lead gasket and that thickness is 30 thou. still.. ill only be performing at 20 tho. Anyone have any advice? this is begining to be a pain in the ass..

 Re: aftermarket head gaskets
do you know the compressed thickness of the stock ones? and have you had a problem with them blowing?

 Re: aftermarket head gaskets
I went copper when I put my heads back on... They leaked. I thought maybe when the heads were trued up, they didn't match the block anymore. Anyone ever heard of that happening?

 Re: aftermarket head gaskets
When I did the first cam we put stock in ,heads decked 50 thou. They were leaking with in 10 hours. I put the copper in no problems, I decked the block 10 because it was not flat. 50 off the heads, 10 off the block, compression is up to 240 now that the rings have seated.

 Re: aftermarket head gaskets
put da stock gaskets in..... I've got over 800 hrs. on headwork & stock gaskets. If da gaskets fail, it ain't from da headwork.

 Re: aftermarket head gaskets
I have a gasket kit for the briggs 35 in you are interested. I screwed up when ordering and ended up with two extra sets. One kit includes 2 head gaskets, 2 valve cover gaskets , 2 exhaust and 2 intake and 4 valve seals. Basicly everything u need to redo your heads. The kit is direct from briggs all oem stuff. Let me know if you are interested.

 Re: aftermarket head gaskets
I have 100hrs on the copper ones and haven't had a problem. I did hear yesterday second hand that EVT stopped offering the copper because of excessive failures.

 Re: aftermarket head gaskets
Wouldn't call it excessive but there were some failures. The new gaskets we have cured that problem. They compress to .040".
