 Converting my boat for longtail
I think I'm good on the prop. Now I just have the fuel issue. After running the motor all day it wants to stop drinking fuel and shut off.

Re: Converting my boat for longtail
i hade bought a new moeller fuel tank and after running wot for a while motor would die. come to find out it was one of the new epa updated tanks and i had air comming in from the tank. took it back to where i got it and they had one of the old styles. hooked it up and have been fine ever since.

Huh maybe that's what it is. I know whenever I would open the vent back up air would shoot out

Shouldn't need one if the Kholer has a fuel pump?

Re: Converting my boat for longtail
I don't have one on my kohler and haven't had an issue yet (knock on wood).
I do keep one in the boat with extra hose clamps, just in case.

ok, i was asking because if you had one and it wasnt getting hard you could almost bet it was the tank

Re: Converting my boat for longtail
Do you have the stock mechanical pump or a vacuum pump?

Before I go spend money do you guys think me shutting the vent on the gas tank everytime I shut the engine off to fish could be the problem? Maybe messing with the vacuum?

Leave the vent open - if it fixes the problem... You know what the issue was. Start simple then eliminate possible causes - I'd do that before I start dropping cash on other stuff

Yeh only thing is it does it 3/4 through the day. So I basically have to cruise close to the boat ramp all day.

Re: Converting my boat for longtail
i run a yamaha fuel tank and a yamaha primer bulb even though the kohler has a fuel pump i never have a problem losing fuel. the primer bulb kinda acts as a lift pump to get fuel up out of the tank and to the motor.

Why would you close the vent when you stop?

I dk just figured you were suppose to. I'm going to pick up a primer bulb and a new gas tank before I go this week. The primer bulb just doesn't make since bc the motor is already running when it loses fuel.

Took it back out today. Freaking love this boat. Went through some shallow ass water. The new gas tank and fuel primer ball helped as well. No issues.

I think I was doubting it bc I couldn't get it set right from popping out of water. I love it now. The only thing I'd want a surface drive for is more sitting down driving on long hauls.

Re: Converting my boat for longtail
If you got the cav plate adjusted right you should be able to sit and drive, unless you have to make a lot of turns.

Ya I'm happy with it. I'm sure if I tweak it more I can get 18. It def cruises along the lake good enough for me. Next is a trolling motor for it.
