LT Fishing with the Father in Law
Fishing for walleye. Only caught a small pike. Was just nice to get out.

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
Nice...I have used my long tail for fishing quite a bit lately. The LT is a Bass/Bluegill machine.... I love how those guys in the 50 thousand dollar bass boats look at me when I make it to the fishing spots they can only dream about.

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
Great pic. A bass boat about severed me and my boat in half back in '99 on the Big O. I am upgrading my LT fishing duck boat by adding a bow mount trolling motor. I fish to relax and have fun-I can't see how you do that when you have to speed around all the time. I also don't need electronics to catch fish anyhow.

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
Buzz, I get the same reaction here in N MN. Most people have never seen a mud motor up here. I love the look on the face of the guys when i fly by them pushing through the rice in 8" of water during duck season. What takes me a few mins to get through will take them a few hours. My gdlt is the best money I have ever spent on hunting/fishing equipment

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
Buzz, I used to get the same skewed faces and questions back in '89 when the longtail was the only mud toy in town (excepting blowboats), and there were only a handful. Now the shorty owners sneer at times but I don't care. Mine cost a lot less, is a lot more reliable IMO, than the shorties, and what's the hurry, anyway?

A friend of mine here has a MudBuddy 23 The only 2 mud motors around. He flys by me, but I'm having fun with the LT - glad to know others are proud of theirs too lol

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
Great picture, Buzz, thanks. I find I really miss Walleye. Oh well, I'll just have to go get some more Burbot or Pike. Back in the day that GoDevil was about the only game in town I got this email. I hope you enjoy it.
Subject: letter from disgruntled Go-Devil owner
Date: Wed, 28 Jan 1998 12:54:43 -0900
Dear Mr. GoDevil dealer,
About 5 years ago, I purchased a Go-Devil engine from you. I have been very satisfied with the performance of the engine and your support after the sale has been outstanding.
Mr. dealer, I do have a problem which I need to discuss with you. This is a problem which occurs every time I either put my boat into the water or take my boat out of the water. I cannot launch or take out my boat without being bothered by one or more men with questions about my Go-Devil! It's getting so that I have to allow an extra half-hour on both ends of my fishing trips just to answer questions! This bothers me greatly because that's one hour of fishing wasted talking to some wingnuts who want a Go-Devil but can't pry their wallets (or their wife's purse) open far enough to actually buy one! This has got to stop!
Mr. dealer, you never warned me that such instances would occur after purchase of the Go-Devil. I can find no warning notices in the Go-Devil engine owner's manual.
Further, I have it on good authority that almost all other owners of Go-Devil engines have been subject to this harassment as well. I'm thinking of joining together with the other Go-Devil owners who have purchased engines from you in a class action suit to prevent this disruptive activity from continuing any further.
Perhaps you would consider placing a paid advertisement in the local paper asking that people not hassle owners of Go-Devil engines and boats while they are using them. Maybe you'd consider erecting signs at local boat ramps which state "No Questioning of Go-Devil Owners Allowed!"
Mr. dealer, something must be done! Otherwise, I will have no choice but to take matters in my own hands and make up the most horrible LIES about Go-Devil engines so as to immediately curtail any further questioning by curious prop-kicking onlooker wingnuts.
I may repaint my boat with the phrase "I DON'T KNOW NUTHIN' ABOUT IT, I JEST DRIVE IT" plastered all over both sides. Or, I may have to make a cardboard cover for my Go-Devil engine so that it looks like a crappy old Evinrude outboard.
Respectfully yours,
Mortimer Propgrinder 1389 Sweeper Alley Bearflanks, Alasky
ps: Got any more props?
pps: Why doesn't my Go-Devil run while completely under water?

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
I just about busted a rib from laughing, Stualaska! Thanks. I know you "graduated" to a surface drive and I know that makes those long river runs easier. Is that a 35 gdsd you are running? I'd get one if that was my situation. I sometimes have a large gar fish or alligator take my line, and there are some large catfish here, but usually it is bass or bluegill I get. I envy the solitude and that you don't have the crowding of other duck hunters. I am waiting the first independent reports on mudbuddy's SLT gear reduction motor. All the best!

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
Ranger, Back in 1988 a 55 mile, upriver, run with my 18hp B&S IC horizontaly opposed eng on an 18 X 48 was about 7 hours. With the 35sd the same run on a loaded 24 X 48 boat with cabin is 2 1/2 hours. I like the load pushing ability of the 35sd The ice has been off the Tanana and Yukon about 2 weeks and we have taken 3 black bears with bows and many pounds of Burbot. No Pike or Sheefish yet. Believe it or not, I do miss catching Bluegills, but I guess I'll survive. We did see one other boat last week, but he was on the other side of the Yukon, a couple of miles away, and was just traveling to a village. Oh yeah, in three days, one airplane went over at about 35,000 feet.

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
Yeah. I live in central Michigan. Not many mud motors around here. I always get a lot of double takes from people but not too many question me about the boat the usually keep their distance. I keep a Large German Sherpherd near by

Re: LT Fishing with the Father in Law
I got a safety inspection at the ramp yesterday, the deputy that administered it said that he has been doing the inspections for a long time and he had never seen a mud motor. other than on swamp people
