Just tell them you need everything for a stage 1 minus the muffler & head work. You'll need the 4350 chip.

Side note- I have a brand new rev limiter & 4350 chip I'll sell ya. I bought and changed my mind about putting it on. It's never been used.

I had my heads done (valve springs shimmed and decked 0.060). I run a BPS carb kit, modified stock intake, and exhaust and run a 4570 rev limiter chip. With the heads done, the next point of failure is the stock connecting rods and push rods which you should stay ~4500 RPM. If you don't shim the valve springs then use the 4350 chip to keep from floating the valves.

I have run the 160 jet (came with the kit) and the 165. The 165 may be a little rich but I will re-check it when it gets cold. A good Harley mechanic may give you a handful out of his jet box to try for a few bucks. They come in 2.5 increments.

I read it the same way as TBS did. He is thinking of both ways. Considering the options myself.

IF he were to go with just carb and exhaust and have the head work done at a later date, besides rejetting the carb what else is required? Does it require a whole new rev box, or just a change in chip to 4570/4600? If just the chip how much $$$ are we talking about for a chip?

I tend to agree with the thinking that headwork would offer the best bang for the buck. How will a motor respond if just headwork is done first without the mikuni Carb? Can a stock carb be turned up to make the motor respond with governor adjustments? it seems only a few go this route of headwork and stock carb. What are the advantages and drawbacks?

With all the research I have done, the general concensus is typically do exhaust, carb, then heads.
I have a exhaust and I ordered a minuki carb kit from EVT last week. When it comes in I will have more answers for you.
It would be nice to do both to get all the benifits, but I am not Sandman. :D

i am definitely getting the heads done. Just not before the intake/carb. Probably have to wait a month or two before I can tear them off and send them in to get reworked. The carb is an easy bolt on, just wanting to know about the jet size I should use for each situation.

Sounds like the 4350 rpm chip in the limiter is the way to go.

D Duck I'm in the same boat one thing at a time.
Put the carb on and see how she runs, if you need to rejet then go to a harley shop and get some jets.
Every motor is going to react differently to certain jets. What works for one guy won't work for another, but it can give you an idea of where to start.

I agree to do the heads but through research everyone said to do the carb over the heads for more bottom end gain, but I will do the heads soon.
And I will get the heads from evt and send them my core.
If the heads were the better way to go then that is the way I would have went, but thats not what I was told to do. Maybe I am wrong for not doing the heads first, but its too late now.

I just put a Mikuni (BPS KIT) on mine and have been tuning the last couple weeks and it was well worth the cost. I picked up 2 mph on the GPS across the board and much better to get on plane. It pushes thru the current better and carries load better so all around I would not shy away from doing the carb alone and then work towards the other mods.
I have the 4350 chip in mine but that is what the kit came with.
I will be looking at more mods myself but not till after duck season.
