Post Changing rear seal on gtr
I need to change the outdrive seals on my gtr. I blew the seal out in the belt housing and it's slinging grease all over. Hoyt was supposed to talk me through it but I haven't heard back from him and got a voicemail when I called again today. Anyone done it before? I have the parts needed...just looking for help before I start this.

Pull prop .... git yore pipe wrench and be shore to turn the bearin' assembly to the right to loosin' it .... it's backwards like that fo a reason ..... take it off and put yore new seals back in there and you gone !!!

I thank I did mines last of the winter of 2012 or early sprang ..... Maxxis85 internet helped me .... should find it in a search ....

Sounds like your inner seal if your seeing grease in your belt housing.

Also im sure you have a newer motor being you knew what seal kit to get. I had to use an impact to get the pully off. Other than that it wasnt to bad. I ordered my stuff from Calen, so he helped me a ton. Just be carefull and ask away.

Its a pretty simple process once you get started, do you take the screw out of the shaft before you pump grease in it, just wondering

Yes, screw is removed every time. I guess with the seal blown it was still holding more grease in the belt housing than it was in my out drive. What a shitty mess. But I got her cleaned up. I appreciate the help!

Clamp the LU in a vise to make it easy to work on it. Remove the bolt from the end of the shaft, then remove the taper lock bushing. Here is a video on how taper locks work.

At that point remove the wear sleeve, the BIG SNAP RING (get some GOOD pliers) and then remove the seal. Install new wear sleeve by sliding the wear sleeve over the shaft and push it until it hits the bearing. Grease the outer diameter of it and grease the inner lips of the new grease seal. Then slide the newly greased seal over the shaft/ wear sleeve and tap in place then install the big ass snap ring. Install taper lock bushing and pulley back onto shaft by pushing it until it touches the wear sleeve, then lock the pulley onto the bushing. Install the last bolt into the shaft then install you lower unit.

^^^^^ perfect! If your tapers dont want to come off, use a light impact. Helped knock it loose
