Call GoDevil and have em send you a new joint. Their power is out right now in BR but they are still on generator power. They have a huge one running the whole wharehouse. They did say though that fed ex and ups is still in question right now. Looks like thats all that broke.

Nope, just one (indestructible) part. Put the new one in and go! Didn't take me 5 minutes to get that one out, and hopefully it won't take much more to get the new one in. I just gotta take a cutting oil bucket and rinse all the metal shavings out of the housing. Luckily, they were smart enough to put a drain plug in the back of it which will work beautifully...

I never seen a Dual cardan joint without a centering ball. Easy fix.. Goes to show you nothing is unbreakable. What broke probbaly had NOTHING to do with maintainance, It jus broke!

2 things for future reference....


The rust makes me think the seal on the cover plate was leaking
and those little zerts on the U Joint are for the routine greasing you
are supposed to do every 100 hours.... But likely never did...

By opening her up every 100 hours you will renew the seal on the
cover and get more life out of the U Joint by greasing it....

PS - not sure how easy it will be to install - they might want you to
slip the shaft out the tail end - then install it back so that the U Joint
doesn't have to come apart... You also need new seals at the business
end of your shaft if you have never changed them... Also if you have
never changed them you might find a grove cut into the shaft by dirt
and debris that clings to the rubber seal... Because I bet you have
never changed them and they should be done every year or 100 hours...

A U joint only might get you going - but also doing the seals and possibly
swapping the shaft and mangled cover plate might be the best way to go
long term...

Try to talk to Charles the head mechanic or Coco over at GD to get
more info and RENT the SPECIALTY TOOLS to do it right for $20.00...

FYI... Mine is 3 years old and the U Joint still looks as new
as the one ing the picture - no rust - there is grease slung all
down in the bottom of mine though so it isn't as clean as in this
picture from the manual....

Yeah, that's the manual, I've got that. I did talk to Charles for a little while though, and I explained to him what happened. To be perfectly honest, he was shocked... He said he's never heard of the yolks themselves disintegrating like that. I offered to send him pictures, and he very quickly said, "Oh NO, NO NO NO! I don't need pictures!" I guess they don't want any pictures taken in fear that they might "leak"... Too late. Anyway, he also offered to look at the entire assembly for me. He said that if I wanted to remove the sprocket, hub, yolks, U-joints, and coupler and send it back to him, he'd look it over to see if he could find any reason why it exploded like it did. Although it was very nice of him to offer, truthfully, I just want the part so I can get it put back together and running ASAP. With teal season right around the corner, I don't wanna waste a single day! I can say this for all you cheerleaders, they were incredibly easy to deal with and responsive to my problem! I'm pleased as long as the follow through is as good as the up front communication was. Cost thus far: $205.00 That's a lot better than I thought it was gonna be when I opened it up and saw the debris field of shattered steel!

P.S. I'm keeping the blowed up access panel as a reminder. Any time I'm feeling invincible (bout to drive home drunk, bout to kick a homeless person, bout to run into a burning building, etc.), I'll just look at that dented panel and remind myself that nothing and no one lasts forever!!!

It looks like it is a PITA to service the drive other than the Allemite pressure lubricator. So yep Even giga is trying to pass da buck!

Also Robin yes it is 6 bolts, Plus a tube of silicon to seal it back up. If your on the water and got to open it up and you have no slicon then your drive takes on water, Ujoints and water isn not good, I know that for a fact from the offroad side I am familiar with.

they all break, the GD is not superior... this thread proves it!

I never have a problem getting in touch with the Gator-Tail team. Clutch cover is 2 nylock nuts and NO slicon LOL. The biggest problem I EVER had with my GTR was the Briggs motor rounding a cam lobe when it was STOCK.

on a day when roads are closed near the GD factory and they are running
on generators.... If UPS runs his parts will ship today....

And he didn't need a "Secret Sevice" clearance the way you would at GT

have not contributed anything toward Coot Killin Man's repair needs....

Wow still at it boys!! When did a trim go ip to 700 in price. I got go use my 400 hr Gtr to fix my camp for the storm and my lower unit faired well nor did I have any unlined break in time of need !! Go figure.

Look at page 15, i thought this would answer some greasing questions, ur lubricator does not grease these parts hence your failure

Well I got news for ya, the new one probably won't get grease either except for when I install it. I do appreciate the backhanded "help" as always though.

But it says grease it every 75-100 hours i forgot how many hours you said you had on your motor

they say u can't fix stupid. but for $205.00 i guess u can.

Haters gonna hate I guess. The gdsd may not be as user friendly as some but it'll get the job done.
