Post Prop deep
Hi, I'm sorry if somebody did this question before, I'm new in this forum.
I own a 14 ft. jon boat with a 25 Kohler engine, long tail, I need to know what is the right deep that the prop must run.
I'll apreciate some help.
thanks
Leonides

just under the surface. yur cav plate should run right at the surface damn near on its own.

Taken from GD owners manual...BTW I wouldn't bend it no more than an 1/8" at a time.

No, the bolt he is talking about is under the frame of the motor, its kinda like a trim bolt if you would, the frame sits on a bolt that has a lock nut on it that bottoms out to control how deep the motor can dig.

I use to replace that bolt with a longer one!! I would set it were the cavitation plate sat 1" below the water with nothing in the boat. When in mud it wouldn't let it dig down so much!!

^^ I did the same thing, with that bolt set right, you can still lift up on the handle and dig through some really bad mud without the motor lifting you up off the floor of the boat, Set the bolt with your lightest load, if not when you set it to your heaviest load, it will still ride to high in the water when you have it on a light load.

My MB doesn't have that bolt like a GDLT.

I have been thinkin about putting one on it somehow for when I get into the mud.

Opening day of last year, a buddy of mine was bogged down for 40+ mins in mud before I was able to get back to him to pull him out, the difference was I had that lil bolt to keep mine from digging 3 feet down like his was, he was in a 16' boat with a 31 mud buddy, i was in a 20 go devil long tail, so that bolt really does make a difference sometimes.

Hi, thanks you all for your help, yes it has a 5/8" x 21/2" regulation bolt under the rotation plate and the part that hold the motor to the tramson.
this weekend I will lift it a litlle and see how it works, if it start jumping out of the water I'll increase the angle of the cavitation plate.
thanks again
Leonides
